American Pinball (AP) recently sent out an update to its distributors at what is a crucial time for the company as it transitions to new leadership.

AP told distributors that it is working to grow its business with contract manufacturing for arcade, redemption and pinball. They reiterated their commitment to bringing out the 7th and 8th games that it has designed in-house. Game 7, rumored to be based on the videogame Cuphead, is not on the production line yet. However, parts for the game are arriving at the American Pinball factory “every day” and sample units are being built and tested.

American Pinball currently has the following games New in Box and ready to ship:

• Hot Wheels Classic
• Hot Wheels Deluxe
• Barry O’s BBQ Classic
• Galactic Tank Force Deluxe
• Galactic Tank Force Limited
• Legends of Valhalla Limited (13 units left)
• Houdini (6 remain from the recent production batch)

Outside of this official update to distributors, I personally have heard that the tentative plan is for American Pinball to bring Cuphead to the Midwest Gaming Classic (MGC), which takes place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from April 4th through the 6th. I flew out to MGC a couple of years ago. It’s a fantastic show, so if you’re near there you definitely should check it out.

Cuphead being there is not set in stone, but that it around the time that the game should be ready to reveal to the World based upon what I have heard.

Yesterday, American Pinball announced that it is going to build 100 units of a new “Classic” Edition of its Galactic Tank Force pinball machine in 2025. The new Classic version of the game will have an MSRP of $7,995, which is $1,000 less than the previous lowest trim level of the game, the “Deluxe” Edition. To reach that price point, American Pinball is removing the following Deluxe Edition features: Magic Glass, inner art blades, its Aura Lighting system, the knocker and supposedly the PCB that controls the robot and UFO movement in the game.

The distributor Pinball Traders is bringing a number of American Pinball machines to the upcoming Texas Pinball Festival (TPF), which takes place from March 21st through the 23rd, including Hot Wheels, Houdini, Legends of Valhalla, Barry O’s BBQ Challenge and Galactic Tank Force. It is providing discounts on both New in Box and floor games, ranging from $500 off NIB machines and $1,000 – $5,000 off games that are set up at the show.

There was no word from the company or rumors that I have heard about whether its next game, Cuphead will make an appearance at TPF.

Just a quick update re-confirming some earlier rumors that I wrote about for everyone, since word is that people are saying they aren’t true.

A remake of Stern Pinball’s The Walking Dead IS happening this fall. I’m accepting bets on it for anyone who is interested.

Also, Stern is planning on making use of those Aerosmith parts that I saw on my factory tour to make another run sometime in 2025.

Last up for tonight, Pinball Brothers really wanted to get the license for Motörhead pinball last year. Apparently, it’s a big band in parts of Europe. They couldn’t get it though, because as I said Spooky Pinball already has the license and is doing a run of the game that was showed off at TPF. As Spooky said, they are not building Motörhead “in 2025” because it got pushed back in its schedule until 2026.

Time for the disclaimer. As I always say, rumor articles are meant to be fun and generate excitement about the hobby. They’ve existed for decades, all the way back to PinGame Journal and other publications. When I write about a rumor, I try to make express my level of confidence in them but this sort of thing isn’t an exact science. If it was 100% straight from the manufacturer, it wouldn’t be a rumor…it would just be news. I feel very good about all three of the above rumors, but we won’t know for sure until they happen.

I’m really excited about what’s coming up in pinball in 2025. It’s going to be a great year for the hobby.

Earlier today I thought to myself, I wonder what would happen if I scrolled back to Stern Pinball’s first Facebook post. Yes, these are the sorts of things that go through my mind lol.

So I figured out to go back in time…all the way back to September 22, 2009. The first post Stern Pinball ever made on Facebook was a link to its list of distributors. Meh. But the second post…now this is interesting!

Two days later, Stern shared a link to a YouTube video from June 17, 2006. The video was not on Stern’s official YouTube page, but some page called “mpr933.” It showed off Stern Pinball’s The Simpsons Pinball Party (TSPP) on the production line at its factory, in glorious 240p lol.

Stern Pinball produced TSPP all the way back in 2003, I love being able to get a look at it being made. This is the earliest ever video of the Stern factory that I remember seeing and also the earliest one that shows up in a search of YouTube. I embedded the video below and captured a bunch of images from it to share here. They’re a little fuzzy but super interesting, at least to me :). Compare this to the brand new Mega Factory that Stern is cranking games out at today.

OK, maybe not soon, but tonight I heard something very interesting about a possible pinball machine based on the characters “Jay and Silent Bob.”

Many of you will be familiar with the director / actor Kevin Smith. His big debut came in 1994 with the movie Clerks. He went on to create a number of movies, including Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and others.

He is also known for his love of comic books and Dungeons and Dragons. The latter is how he came to voice a character in Stern Pinball’s latest game Dungeons & Dragons The Tyrant’s Eye

Kevin appeared on the “Aimless Pinball” Twitch channel live from On Tilt pinball in California earlier today. They were streaming Stern’s D&D when the subject of how he became a voice actor in the game came up. This is where it got really interesting:

“How did you get involved in the voice of this game?”

Kevin: “What a great question. It was actually a fairly confused thesis.

There’s a guy named Stuart who sets up all of our licensing deals. So at one point I was like, Stuart can we get a pinball game. Like I’ve seen other people have pinball games, can we get a Jay and Silent Bob pinball game. And he goes, I’ll look into it.

And so Stuart generally delivers. I got an e-mail from the reps and they said the good folks at Stern want you to do a voice in a pinball game. And I conflated those two things. So in my head, I was like ‘Oh those are the people who are making our pinball machine” by all means…“

So Kevin went in and did the voice for D&D, a whopping 1,400 lines of dialog.

“And afterwards, I’m like, I’m so glad we’re working together and shit. And they looked a little confused because they were like well we workED together, you’re done. Go home. But in my head I was like we’re making a pinball game together.

Then I found out, the people that are making our pinball game, they’re not the Stern people. So it’s another company making a pinball game, which they haven’t even announced yet and shit.

So I probably shouldn’t, but you heard it here.

I remember Stuart was like, they want you involved in the writing of the game and I was like what writing? Like it’s a pinball game. Now I understand. They want a whole world under the glass.”

This afternoon, Multimorphic announced on social media that it has completed building all of the pre-ordered P3 The Princess Bride modules. It took them six months to fulfill all of the orders.

Next, Multimorphic will build “another couple of batches” of The Princess Bride for inventory and then begin building a warehouse full of P3 machines in anticipation of its next game release.

Billiards falls under the category of “arcade” stuff so I’ll allow this here. Plus the picture is really cool lol. Valley Dynamo shared a picture of the Wisconsin State Pool Tournament on its Facebook page this morning. Look at all those pool tables!

This afternoon, Zen Studios, maker of the Pinball FX virtual pinball game, revealed that the iconic 1988 Williams pinball machine Banzai Run will be the second of three upcoming tables that it is releasing in December.

Zen previously revealed the first table in the pack as the 1989 Williams game Earthshaker. Table three in the pack has not yet been announced.

The first two pins in the pack were great choices by Zen. I owned an Earthshaker for a while a number of years ago. Great game. And come on, who doesn’t like Banzai Run? So cool.
