On July 20, 2018, VGM Classics (NM, USA), a classical record company specializing in video game music, has started three crowd-funding campaigns for new orchestral CD albums featuring music from the video games: “Star Fox,” “Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon,” and “Suikoden II.”

“Star Fox” (known in Europe as “Starwing”) was a rail shooter video game published by Nintendo for the SNES system in 1993. The game was re-released as a part of Nintendo’s Super NES Classic Edition in 2017.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon

“Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon” was a tactical role-playing game published by Nintendo for the NES system in 1990. It was later re-released both as a part of “Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem” for the SNES system in 1994, and as a part of Nintendo’s “Super NES Classic Edition” (Japanese ed.) in 2017. For many Western audiences, the 2008 Nintendo DS release might have been their first encounter with the game.

Suikoden II

“Suikoden II” is a role-playing video published by Konami for the PlayStation system in 1998. The original music was based on orchestral and ethnic sounds that reflected the many cultures and feelings that permeated the story.

The campaigns aim to raise US$40,000 each in an all-or-nothing format, and they all end on August 31, 2018.VGM Classics has invited the award-wining composer/conductor Kentaro Sato to be its music director to oversee and direct the recordings. Mr. Sato is the orchestral and choral mastermind behind such video game titles as the “DISSIDIA Final Fantasy” series.

VGM Classics expects that our projects not only will fulfill the wishes of game music lovers, but also will contribute to the advancement of musical art and culture at large.
