Every now and then, a truly great game will emerge, revitalizing a beloved genre and reminding us why we fell in love with it in the first place. In 2025, that game was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based RPG developed by Sandfall Interactive, which wears its inspiration on its sleeve, yet still stands strong as a stunning, original work that appeals to both genre newcomers and seasoned veterans. Thanks to its extremely compelling narrative, easy-to- pick-up but hard to master battle system, and an excellent feeling of progress and adventure, Expedition 33 was quickly showered with acclaim from fans
and critics alike. In addition to selling millions of copies in just a few days, the game shattered several records, including the most award wins at the prestigious 2025 Game Awards.
