Simulation games have been a staple of the video game industry for over four decades, giving the player the power to make important decisions on how to manage a given scenario. Utopia, released on the Intellivision in 1981, is recognized by Guinness World Records as the game that defined the genre. In the game, two players each control an island and manage the people, buildings, and food while navigating elements such as natural disasters, rebellions, and invasions.

The concept of the player having the power to make all the decisions over a simulated world was a bold statement that gamers could do more than just point, shoot, or move a character; they could strategize and manage an entire world from its creation. This format grew in popularity and spread to various genres in the industry. Medical simulation games gave you power over surgery, construction simulation over cities, military simulation over warfare. Even the sports genre….
