The two included gamepads have an angular, wing-like grip design and a SNES controller button layout. The 10-foot cords attached are a huge perk for a system like this. Most wired retro systems have a 2 to 5-foot cord. The one downfall, in my opinion, is the utilization of the D-pad for the game action. Most of the games in the arcade require a joystick type controller to move your character more easily. I found some games rather difficult to move the characters as well as getting a little cramp in the thumb when playing. The box mentions support for third-party controllers, so you could find a USB controller that has a joystick to make it easier if you like.

The Mayflash PS2 PS3 PC USB arcade stick is the only joystick controller that works with the Super Retrocade. I got one, plugged it into the system and it works just fine. It’s a whole lot better than the SNES controllers that come prepackaged with the system. They’re readily available on Amazon.

Since my last post I have upgraded my controllers to a Banggood double arcade stick joystick style controller. It’s contains two 8 direction sticks with 6 buttons apiece and works great with the Super Retrocade. There’s a little bit of set-up required but it’s VERY simple and there’s a YouTube tutorial that shows how to do it. Of course the Mayflash PS2 PS3 PC USB still works if you’re happy with a 4 way, square gate joystick. I’ve loaded HUNDREDS of classic games with artwork and haven’t had any problems at all. It’s a retro gaming powerhouse for sure!
