Cincinnati mainstay Arcade Legacy will be overrun with viruses in November, but there’s no need to call in a specialist. The barcade will be hosting the world championships of the DrMC, a gaming tournament dedicated to the Nintendo puzzle game Dr. Mario, on November 8-9.

The DrMC, which is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, bills itself as the premier tournament for the 1990 game. The tournament is the brainchild of Columbus native Chris  who, along with a team of volunteers, has run Dr. Mario competitions for the last nine years. Previous championships have drawn contestants from as far away as Israel, and competitors in Europe and Asia regularly participate in the tournament’s online speed championships. Says Bidwell, “The competition has really grown over the last few years, and we’ve seen the quality of play rise as well. If you’ve never seen this game played competitively, you wouldn’t believe the passion and skill on display every match.

The Cincinnati tournament will be the culmination of a year of regional qualifiers held around th country, bringing in hundreds of players ranging from newcomers to the game’s growing stable of high-level competitors. Like those regional events, the finals will be open to anyone who wants to play. Those who can’t make the trip to see the tournament live can view it on the DrMC’s Twitch channels at twitch.tv/thedrmc and twitch.tv/thedrmc2.

Arcade Legacy is located at 2441 Crowne Point Drive in Cincinnati, Ohio. For more information about the site, visit www.arcadelegacyohio.com. For more information about the DrMC, visit monthly.drmc.gg and click on the Discord link.
