Aluna Rift Ignites its Thrusters to Launch on Nintendo Switch and Steam Today

A neon-coated twist on classic arcade gaming fused with gargantuan boss fights and a dash of multiplayer

[United Kingdom] 27th November 2025 – Today marks the official release of Aluna Rift, a high-stakes sci-fi action shooter that blends simple mechanics with satisfying gameplay.

Developed solely by creator Ben Lowther-Saul, Aluna Rift puts you at the helm of a small but nimble spacecraft.

“If your initial impression of the game is ‘This just looks like Asteroids (1979)’ – that would make sense!” – says Ben. “I was actually asked to ‘recreate Asteroids in Unity’ as part of a job application a few years ago. What I submitted for that had a lovely game-feel to it and I enjoyed making it so much that I decided to evolve it into its own unique take on the original masterpiece. I was desperate to complete and launch a game entirely on my own, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Initially equipped with the most basic of weapons and a built-in “bullet-time” evasion technique known as “Phase-Shifting”, you are tasked with bringing peace and order to your world. With these simple tools, it is up to you to navigate randomly generated swarms of enemies long enough to lure out gargantuan bosses that really test your reflexes (and those anger-issues you’ve been in denial about for so long!). Don’t worry about surviving with just your measly vanilla laser; weapon upgrades are aplenty, and combining upgrades leads to some truly epic flurries of vibrant color amidst plenty of on-screen destruction.

Along the way you’ll have the opportunity to upgrade your ship too, with Roguelite progression and carry-overs present in the standard game mode. Endless hiscore hunters have a separate game mode just for them, where they can pit their skills against the rest of the world with the inclusion of global leaderboards. You can also play Aluna Rift co-operatively with a friend, or go head-to-head against them in a – surprisingly exhilarating – split screen battle mode! To top it all off the game boasts an intoxicating original soundtrack that blends euphoric tranquility with high-tempo pulse-pounding beats to really set you drifting into a state of flow.

“I’ve had tons of fun making this game.” – admits Ben. “I’m still a relatively new developer and I’m definitely not an artist! But I’m really proud of how it all turned out. I’m not expecting to sell loads of copies or compete with GTA 6 with Aluna Rift, but I’m hopeful it brings a bit of joy and fun to the lives of a few people.”
