When many think of Archie Comics, they think of the teen-oriented comic series starring lovable High School aged stars: Archie, Veronica, Betty and Jughead. However, Archie Comics’ history starts long before its
namesake publication.

The life of the company now known as Archie Comics began in 1939 when 3 businessmen, Maurice Coyne,
Louis Silberkleit and John Goldwater formed what was then known as MLJ Magazines. MLJ focused on superhero comic books initially, as during the late 30’s and into the mid 40’s the Golden Age of Comics (as it is now called by comic aficionados) was all about action and adventure titles. Sales were good and soon MLJ was known as Archie Comic Publications.
