Hello and welcome! My name is Katosepe and I’ll be your host for today’s Video Game of the Day.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Today is a day for being with your loved ones, family, friends, pets, whoever is important in your life, and nothing brings people together like a good co-op game. Your pet probably won’t be able to help out in this one but if you have one or three family members up for a game, today’s game may just be your jam this Valentine’s. Today’s game is Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, developed by Asteroid Base and released on Windows, Mac, Linux and Xbox One in 2015.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is similar to games like Overcooked where you have a number of different simple tasks and not enough people to do all of them. Except instead of cooking meals, this time you’re navigating a spaceship to save cute animals. The problem is that the spaceship has a number of different stations. One person must control the engines of the ship to keep everything moving. Four gunner stations are on each side of the ship in order to protect it from enemies. The shields cover some of the ship and can be rotated around as needed. The map can be opened to help navigate the areas, and finally, the ultimate Yamato Cannon can be activated which can’t be controlled but fires a number of powerful shots as it slowly rotates on its own around the ship.

Players must balance all of these tasks and work together to complete levels. There are four different campaigns, each with four levels and a boss fight at the end. Each level has players work to gather the trapped animals from cages and eventually reach the heart portal at the end to go to the next stage. Players don’t need to pick up every trapped animal in a stage but doing so gives gems to upgrade the ship for later levels. Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime can be played single-player where the one player can order an AI to the different stations but the game is definitely better in multiplayer with at least one other person.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime received positive reviews when it released. Gaming outlet Destructoid even gave the game it’s perfect score of 10 out of 10. The game has since been ported to the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch. So, if you’ve got a gaming buddy or three this Valentine’s Day, maybe give Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime a try.

Thanks so much for listening! If you liked the show, please leave us a review on Amazon. It helps us out a lot and lets me know what I can improve or focus on going forward.
