Games that employ the side view are MANY- to say the least. From shooters, to beat-em-ups to platformers, this view is one of the most used in gaming. If you’re a fan of these games, you may have thought you’ve seen them all, but we here at Old School Gamer are ready to deliver the geek.

Check out these under-appreciated side scrollers today!

Ristar: One of the Sega Genesis’ forgotten fun feats. You’ll love it, especially if ya dig Sonic.

Rayman: He’s a beloved character but that original game started it all. 2D and utilizing the side view, it was a beautiful made throwback with amazing visuals.

Comix Zone: A beat-em-up with an awesome visual style, Comix Zone is still a special game.

Strider: Not the original, the 2014 Strider on PS4 and Xbox One is a fluid, sexy, cool and charismatic entry into the series that is beyond under-appreciated.

Cave Story: One of the best side-scrolling Metroidvania games ever. Haven’t played it? You should.
