Monkey Wrench Films has announced a global TVOD and digital release for the documentary Arcades & Love Songs: The Ballad of Walter Day which came out in theaters earlier this year. The musical documentary about Walter Day discusses the lawsuits faced by the founder of Twin Galaxies as he also seeks to record and perform the rock-opera style love songs he has been hearing in his head since having his heart broken at the height of the arcade era. Walter Day’s image is most likely best known as the referee from The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters.
The aftermath of that documentary is among the topics discussed in the new title, which also comes courtesy of the same director, Ed Cunningham. The connection is no coincidence. The King of Kong was a major hit on the festival circuit in 2007 and directly led to lawsuits against Walter Day. However, the documentary also led to some fans providing financial support to Walter Day to assist in his aforementioned dream of recording and performing rock-opera style love songs.
Walter Day is currently seventy-four years old. The original theatrical release of Arcades & Love Songs: The Ballad of Walter Day was also accompanied by the publication of his autobiography, titled The Ballad of Walter Day Autobiography of an Arcade Legend. His official website can be visited here.
