Earlier today, Tassei Denki set up a Pre-Launch Kickstarter page for its upcoming Time Crisis plug and play lightgun device. Tassei Denki also appears to have acquired the rights to include Steel Gunner, Steel Gunner 2, and Point Blank in this device. A Vimeo video, which can be seen here, shows the prototype in action, promising the new device will work just as well as the original hardware and software it’s based off of.
Lightgun games have long been notorious for being difficult to emulate on modern displays, as they rely on quirks in cathode ray tube technology. The G’AIM’E brand under which this device is being developed supposedly uses artificial intelligence technology to work on nearly any monitor. Tassei Denki also claims that the device is arcade accurate.
The Kickstarter campaign will begin on June 24th at 12 noon Eastern Standard Time. Basic, Premium, and Ultimate units have all been confirmed, although the black gun will only be available in the Japanese market, due to regulations against realistic looking toy guns elsewhere. More information about the project has been promised for later this month.
